It has been very much common in the Pakistani politics that only the “big names” are brought into the ring by the political parties so that they can give a tough time to their political rivals. Since they do not want to take any risk of losing the opportunity to form the government, every political party always tries to back the high profile candidates in the elections. The heavier weight-candidates they nominate, the more chances the party has to win the elections. This is one of the most important reasons why these “heavy weights“ are given so much importance in the politics and this is how the political parties are black mailed by them. In this process, the middle and lower middle class workers and supporters of the parties are totally ignored.
Similarly, when the “big names” from other parties started joining PTI, its chairman had to face severe criticism that how the already tested politicians would help him revolutionize the country. In response to this, Imran Khan gave the explanation saying, “People should not notice who is coming into PTI, rather should focus on me as I am the one who would lead the team”. ”If the leader is honest and has the potential, he would easily make them deliver”, he added.
The question is, if a leader is confident enough and has the potential to make his team members work, why is priority given to only high profile people? Why are the common people ignored while giving the party positions and issuing tickets for the elections? Should they not be given a chance to serve the country? Is the poor class born only to vote for the landlords, industrialists and bureaucrats?
Unfortunately, this is not the case with only one party, almost all the parties give preference to their own leadership and other high profile politicians. The most interesting aspect in this regard is that the leadership asks the general people to trust them by way of casting votes in their favor. But, in contrast to it, they lose all their confidence when it is the time to test the common people who have been blindly trusting them for the last 64 years. This shows how much importance the leaders give to their followers.
In this context, Jamat-e-Islami looks to be better than others as its leadership generally prefers its own members in the election process. However, on top of it, MQM has set a new trend by sending the common people to the assemblies. Its leadership did not give priority to the politically “heavy weights” at all. Not only that, MQM`s founder Altaf Hussain left himself out of the race of the electoral process just for the sake of bringing the lower middle class people ahead. This truly represents the trust that MQM and its leadership have on the common people. As a result of his trust, the previously no-value people are now recognized as heavy weights of the Pakistani politics. Dr. Farooq Sattar, Dr.Imran Farooq, Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan, Mustafa Kamal, Kanwer Naveed Jameel, Raza Haroon, Faisal Sabzwari, Nasreen Jaleel, Dr. Sagheer Ahmed are the examples of the same.
It is true that the vision or theory can be implemented in the best way by the person or the leader who has originally conceived it. Otherwise, deviation may arise in its way. Perhaps, this is the most important reason why the “leaders” always put themselves ahead of their followers as far as occupying the highest posts are concerned. But violating this long prevailing maxim, MQM`s Quaid Altaf Hussain has been leading his followers by putting himself out of the electoral race. Isn`t it astonishing that a leader is implementing his vision through his politically no-weight people? What a policy the MQM`s leadership has adopted that it has been implementing its ideology or philosophy through the middle and lower middle class workers and supporters! That is the extreme of the trust that a leader can ever put on his followers.
Other political parties and their leadership need to convey such a positive gesture for their voters too. Although it practically becomes difficult to go against the wind, but when someone has already set a unique example of giving priority to the common people, why not to follow it? There have been more than 64 years since the common people have been following their leaders. Now, the leadership should rely on the middle and lower middle class people in order to implement their visions like MQM. Moreover, if the leadership assumes that the lower class people lack in any ability that is indispensable to be successful in politics, can it not make them overcome this flaw as Altaf Hussain did? If the political parties do not do so and keep giving undue importance to the elite class politicians, then the people will have to revisit their association to them so that they cannot be made fool any more.
