In
our country, political or religious parties are generally formed by elite class
people including landlords, industrialists and seasoned politicians with the
backing of retired generals in lavish drawing room of expensive bungalows and
palaces. Yet they do not hesitate to claim to represent the common people of
the country. But, quite opposite to this political tradition, Altaf Hussain at
the age of 25 along with his very young companions, formed APMSO____the mother
of MQM, in the lawn of IBA of Karachi University. Even after over three
decades, there is no lawn of any university in the country which can be called
the birth place of a political party which got so popular among the common men
like MQM. This shows that it is almost impossible for common people to from and
run their own political party in the presence of evil forces.
There
is no other party except MQM which is the product of a student`s organization
(APMSO). Traditionally, political and religious parties form their students`
wings in educational institutions to attract students. But, Alatf Hussain and
his fellowmen were the young students who after having founded a students`
organization, formed MQM to attract the masses. Even today, MQM is being run by
the same students who have now been quite politically matured and far-sighted.
Apparently,
leadership of political and religious parties asks the common people to trust
them and show their confidence on them through their support and votes.
However, when it is the time to give tickets to the candidates, these leaders
lose all of their confidence not only on the common people, but also on their
own middle and lower middle class workers. They give tickets to the politically
heavy weights or big names of elite class to ensure their victory in elections.
They do not take any “risk” to lose their seat by bringing forward common young
men in election contests.
However,
MQM is only the organization which always prefers lower class people who have
politically no-name in the politics. From Dr. Farooq Sattar to Dr.
Ishrat-ul_Ibad, and from Faisal Sabzwari to Mustafa Kamal, all are those young
men who had no previous political weights in, but now are well-recognized. This
is the reflection of the trust that MQM leadership puts on its young people who
belong to 98% Pakistanis.
Ever
since MQM came into politics, it kept trying to control the sectarian violence
between Shia and Sunni. As a result of its hard and consistent efforts, we do
not see any riots, like in the past, despite so many evil conspiracies to shred
the sectarian harmony. All credit goes to MQM. Not only playing its role for
sectarian harmony, MQM has also done its best to bring the other religious
communities to one plate form. MQM`s founder Altaf Hussain always raised its
voice against any injustice done to the non-Muslims no matter they are Hindus,
Christians, Parsis or Sikhs. It also kept on raising its voice over the
killings of Ahmedis despite receiving severe criticism from the religious
extremists. Altaf Hussian is the only leader of a political party which has
clearly demanded to remove the term “minority” for non-Muslim Pakistanis and
urged the government to treat all the citizens equally.
Ethnic
harmony was also one of the most important reasons why MQM leadership expanded
its domain to other ethnic communities across Pakistan by transforming Muhajir
Qoumi Movement into Muttahia Qoumi Movement. It not merely claimed, but
practically proved its words by nominating and getting candidates from
different ethnic communities elected as MPAs, MNAs and Senators. MQM`s non-Urdu
speaking parliamentarians from Gilgitbltistan and Azad Kashmir are in addition
to them. Today, from lower level to the top tier of MQM leadership, all the
communities have their representation in the party which obviously displays MQM`s vision.
No
other party raised its voice like MQM against Talibanization in Pakistan. It
was only MQM which staged a protest rally in favor of Malala Yousuf Zai when
there was no one to condemn the attack at her. Whether it is matter of mass graves
in Balochistan, killings of Hazaras, victimization of non-Muslims or the demand
of Siraiki and Hazara provinces, MQM stood with the deprived people. Now, MQM
has become a loud voice against injustice on all under-attack communities.
Taking
into account the increasing injustice as well as the brutality against the
common country-men, MQM has been struggling to make a better Pakistan in the
light of the vision of Quad-e-Azam Muhmmad Ali Jinnah. It wants to create such
an atmosphere in the country where no countryman can be discriminated and
victimized merely on the basis of his or her ethnicity, sect, religion, region
or gender; there would be no classification of minority or majority in the
country on any basis; all citizens can be equal before the estate and would be
provided equal opportunity without any bias.
It
is said, “If you want to know the reality of someone, you should observe his
acts when he has powers or wealth”.
Following
the same principle, during the period of 2002 to 2007 when MQM allowed to work,
it served the people in such a way that it was recognized all over the world.
Where ever it could form district governments, it served the people regardless
of their political affiliation, ethnicity, sect, or religion. That was the
reason why Mustafa Kamal was declared as one of the best mayors of the world.
Further, whatever development was made under the MQM`s city governments,
benefited all the people living in Karachi_______the city that had always been
portrayed as the battle field of different political parties, ethnic
communities and sectarian groups. During the period of 2002 to 2007 when MQM
had the interior ministry, it maintained peace in the same multi-cultural and
politically tense city whose peace could not be maintained even after several
operation-clean-ups. This shows that if you use your authority with sincerity
and impartially, you can do it. That was just a glimpse of the kind of Pakistan
that MQM wants to make.
To
tell the truth, these are the aspects of MQM due to which the evil forces of
status-quo have always tried to crush it by hook or crook. These are the same
“Crimes” of MQM due to which it is portrayed as an ill-famed party before the
people. The 2% elite class and their protecting forces are fully aware that if
the 98% deprived people get together on MQM`s platform, they can revolutionize
the entire country. And that is why they want to keep the people away from MQM
through malicious propaganda.
The
people, especially the youth, must keep this in their minds that the decades`
prevailing status quo cannot be broken when the same landlords have hijacked
the movement and the protectors of the corrupt system are sponsoring the
so-called “Revolution”. This can be done only by the movement who truly
represents the deprived common people. There is no one else except only MQM.
So, let`s join hands with it for the struggle!
