Pity The Nation Which Has Such Rulers!

The doors of negotiations with the government are closed now. Thursday will be the Day of Revolution”. This was the most important announcement from Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri after the government had refused to meet PAT`s demands.
PAT had been accusing the PML-N`s provincial and federal governments of being involved in whatever happened in Lahore on 17th June, 2014. Although, it is not PAT`s new demand, but this got a new boom when the Lahore High Court (LHC) upheld the ordered to register a case against 21 individuals including Prime Minister, Chief Minister Punjab and federal ministers and dismissed the petition filed by four federal ministers against the orders issued by Additional Sessions Judge Lahore in connection with Lahore’s Model Town tragedy. Earlier, the director of Minhaj-ul-Quran had given an application to register an FIR of the Model Town tragedy in which PAT`s 14 people were killed and about 90 injured against these people including the Prime Minister and Chief Minister Punjab.
The Media coverage proves it that the Punjab Police unnecessarily used force to remove the barriers from the Minhaj-ul-Quran`s secretariat and fired at the people who resisted that action. When such a foolish operation resulted in the severe criticism to the government, its officials tried to defend it by blaming that the Police opened fire in retaliation to the firing by the PAT workers. However, now the Judicial Commission has revealed that the government could not prove its claim in this respect.
Now the question is, what is hindering the government from allowing the victims to lodge FIR against their nominated officials after the LHC`s order? Why don`t the CM and PM let the law take its own course? Had such a Judicial Commission report and the HC`s order come against PAT`s workers and leadership, would they have waited so long to take any action against them? The Model Town brutality best answers to this!
It is the part of the history that it was PML-N and its leader Nawaz Sharif who announced to launch protest campaign against the PPP-s elected Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for not implementing the Supreme Court`s judgment on NRO arguing that it was their duty to stand by the Judiciary. However, very unfortunately, the same “judiciary-respecting” party and the leadership are giving a deaf ear to the LHC`s order for lodging an FIR. Does this not indicate that the protest to implement the SC`s judgment in the past was not a principal stand of PML-N, but to politically disturb the PPP`s government?
We have heard some important federal ministers saying that they want the “allegations” to be proved in the court of law before any action is taken in this respect. Apparently, it seems to be a very valid point. However, it is also a bitter reality that it was not anyone else, but the PML-N`s government itself which introduced the PPA (Pakistan Protection Act 2014) in the Parliament and got it approved in the name of protection of Pakistan and its citizens which was criticized not only by the Pakistani, but also the international human rights activists and organizations. The PPA, to some extent, deprives the fundamental rights of an accused. According to the Act, anyone can be arrested and kept in detention for about 60 days merely due to suspicion. Even, he can be shot at sight in the same context; a law-enforcement personnel needs not to wait for his suspicion getting proved in any court of law before he opens fire at the accused. Then, the question is, why are the founders of PPA still want the allegations on them to be proved in the court first? This clearly indicates that the laws for common Pakistanis and the political rivals are altogether different from ones which are applied onto the rulers. Should such rulers be allowed to rule us anymore? No, never!
We know very well that two elected Prime Ministers of PPP were given contempt of court notices and one of which was disqualified by the Supreme Court merely for not following its order. So, should the judiciary not take similar action against the Punjab and federal governments?
Similarly, the present Chief of Army Staff is also supposed to intervene in the present situation in the same as it did at the time Nawaz Sharif`s long march against PPP`s government for the restoration of the deposed CJP. If such kind of mediation had taken place earlier, perhaps, the Inqilab March would not have even crossed Gujranwala. Anyway, it is not too late. He still has time to play his role. However, if the situation gets worse and, God forbids, any clash takes place, then all the stake holders cannot avoid responsibility for that. May Allah save Pakistan from that time!
