The First Lesson To PTI!

A member of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf`s student wing Insaf Students`Federation (ISF) was shot dead in Karachi last Sunday. The ISF president Alamgitr Khan confirmed that Awan was an ISF member and said that his party had announced a day of mourning for his death. However, the police stated that the victim was neither affiliated with any political/student organization nor he was killed in a targeted assassination. The SHO Asif Ali Jakharani said, “I don`t think any party will claim someone who is killed over a girl as its member”
If what the police have stated true, then it is a shame for PTI and its leadership. In fact, it is a very big stigma on the new face of Imran Khan`s PTI. It shows that the unwanted elements of the society have become a part of the captain`s team also. When this is the situation, how will it claim to be “neat and clean” anymore?
Some months ago, when the already tested politicians and ”high profile” people joined PTI, many people criticized Imran Khan on this decision. But, the PTI`s chairman said, “Do not see them. Just focus on me. It is the captain who has to lead the team. If the captain or leader is honest and clean, the followers will move in the same direction.”
Now, what should be derived from the killing of ISF member over the matter of a girl? Has the captain failed to lead his team members in the right way? When this will be the character of the PTI`s members even before coming into the power (by forming government that misleads the most towards all sorts of corruption), how will the already frustrated common people make any good expectations from it? There may be the possibilities that such type of elements can be included into PTI as it becomes really difficult for a party to morally scan every prospective worker. But, no excuse may be accepted by the people if any of the already known or ill-famed politicians whom Khan Sahib especially supported, gets involved in such type of activities. Would PTI argue that it was unaware of the kind of personality he or she was having about them too?
On the other hand, if the view of the PTI is accepted, which is different from that of the police, that its member also became the victim of the on-going target killing like the other political workers, then it is a very important lesson to PTI. It shows that the police also can present the distorted picture of the situation going on in Karachi. The purpose of such misreporting is generally to misguide the general people to defame a political party or a group.
It has always been easy for the party forming the federal and/or provincial governments to target anyone it wants. This is very unfortunate that the police of our country including of Karachi has been politicized. Whoever forms government, it tries to control the police by way of transfers, postings and appointments. Then, the same is utilized to dent the political rivals especially in the opposition. When this is the reality, how can it be believed that the police will impartially performing its duties to maintain law & order? When the ruling parties politically appoint the heads/chiefs of the law-enforcement agencies, why would they not use them to victimize others? The signing of COD especially by PPP and PML-N in the present of all the politicians including Khan Sahib, was the endorsement of the fact that the political parties coming into power had been utilizing the state machinery against their political rivals.
The most important reason why the issue of Karachi has not been resolved yet is the absence of an impartial administration controlling especially the law-enforcement agencies. When the relevant authorities themselves become a party in the politics of the city, how can they be expected impartially working for peace? It is fact that generally, operations are not held against the culprits because of the political compromises or interests, but it is also reality that whenever any operation was launched here, it was ordered not for the sake of restoring peace, rather in order to crush the political rivals. That is the reason why despite various Police, Rangers and the Military operations, the peace has not been restored in the Mini Pakistan.
This has become a tradition in our politics that the political parties do criticize their political rivals on the basis of the same “campaign of defamation” despite the fact that they themselves do not believe it at all. That is the reason why all the political parties do not hesitate to form political alliances with the same “defamed” parties or groups in case of need.
Now PTI would have realized that how different the ground reality of the Karachi politics is from what is “reported” to the rest of the country. So, minds made up and decisions made on the basis of such “reporting” have no value at all. Who can know better than a “captain” that the view appearing before the people sitting outside the ground is altogether different from those of the ones who are in the field facing the situation.
Perhaps, that was the result of the same realization due to which IK has been avoiding any sort of disputes with MQM. Politically speaking, it is a good strategy to be adopted after taking into account the ground reality. No matter political and religious parties make any political alliance or not, but they must have at least the working atmosphere among them. Now, PTI would have to be very careful regarding its differences with the PPP government. Otherwise, the first PIT (Police Investigation Team) report against its member, will not take much time to be converted into a complete JIT.
