Recently, the founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain gave a lecture in respect of the effects of the geopolitical situation of Pakistan on its national security, the looming threats on the borders, relations with the neighboring countries and the internal and external challenges being faced by the country. He said that due to the internal and external challenges, the security, sovereignty and integrity of the country are under threat. “It is highly regrettable that instead of thinking about the survival of the country, the politicians were busy in power politics and not thinking about the country”, he added.
Mr. Hussain said that the present situation of the country is a point to ponder for every Pakistani for rising above party affiliations and thinking about the security, integrity and betterment of the country. He further advised that a round table conference be convened for taking concrete decision in the context of the ground reality. At end, he advised the MQM leaders, elected representatives and office-bearers to create awareness among Pakistani people and inform them about the difficult circumstances facing the country.
Though it is not new that various politicians and analysts have been expressing their analysis regarding internal as well as the external threats, but, the emphasis that the MQM`s quaid is giving to his concerns, make us take it seriously. He did not point out towards these concerns through a press release to the media. Nor did he make them an ordinary part of his speech. Rather, he spoke at length on all these things by way of a lecture. Moreover, he also advised his party workers and office bearers to share this with all the people and parties in the country so that consciousness can be created.
The very positive and important aspect in this respect is that MQM`s leader not only asked every Pakistani including especially the politicians to rise above party affiliations for thinking about the country, but also himself practiced it. On his advice, the Deputy Convener of MQM Co-ordination committee and other leaders started having meetings with different political and religious parties. By now, they have had meetings with JI, PML-Q, ANP and JUI-F. Soon, they would be meeting with remaining parties including PML-N, too. The purpose of these meetings is not only to share Altaf Hussain`s concerns regarding the security and integrity of the country, but also to create an atmosphere for sitting together to ponder about the internal and external issues of Pakistan.
In spite of the fact that there are serious differences between MQM and ANP, yet the MQM leadership did not hesitate to go to ANP`s doors for a good cause. Although Munawar Hassan, as a political rival of MQM, did not give the required positive response to it, but the ANP leadership reacted reciprocally. It not only appreciated the MQM`s move, but also accepted its invitation to come to “90”. The people, especially Karachi-ites, were glad to see both of them coming closer to each other as these are the steps that can reduce the possibility of the political involvement in the on-going disturbance in the city.
JI, PML-N and PTI seem to be directly and indirectly showing their disagreement to MQM`s campaign. However, none of them has logically denied the imminent threats to the country as pointed out by Altaf Hussain. They see these efforts as a planned tactic for delaying the upcoming elections. For instance, if the PPP government really wants to delay the elections in this way, can such a proposal not be turned down by sitting together and issuing the joint declaration against it? Generally, there many reasons to disagree with any political party including MQM. But, it becomes quite awkward when these parties altogether ignore the same just for the sake forming their federal and provincial governments.
Thus, it will be politically illogical to miss such an opportunity. In fact, these are the meetings that can surely assist in developing a consensus on all national issues including of Baluchistan, load-shedding, deteriorating economy, and also the other internal and external threats to the country in the prevailing scenario. When despite the extremely tense situation of Karachi, MQM can go to the doors of its political rivals, why not others? Therefore, all of us will have to rise above our political, ethnic, sectarian, and religious affiliations to be united against all kinds of threats to Pakistan this is the need of the time.
