19th June 1992 , Worst Operation – Victory of Haq Parasti

What happened during the military operation which started from 19th of June1992 in Urban Sindh, is a black history.  It is one of the most blackened chapters of the political history of Pakistan.

Concisely, the operation was launched against MQM by the joint venture of the political as well as the military establishment ruling over the country that time. The people who had been expelled from the party, were well-equipped and deployed in the city to occupy the MQM`s unit and sector officers. By implementing this strategy, Karachi had been made a battle field for the MQM workers.

However, MQM leadership very patriotically and wisely saved the Karachi-ites from the planned bloodshed. It immediately appealed all its workers and supporters not only leave the party offices and their homes, but also their areas even the city so that no clash could take place with the deployed armed group or the law-enforcement agencies. Because of MQM`s no-reaction policy, not only its party offices were within no time occupied by the terrorists, but also the army officers were able enough to claim that they had “cleared” the city the very next day.

In fact, it was the best decision that the QM leadership took by leaving the “battle field” vacant for the conspirators.

During the operation, countless charges were put against MQM especially including having a militant group equipped with hundreds of thousands of guns. But in contrast to this, the whole Pakistan was surprised not to see any sort of reaction from MQM against occupying its party offices under the supervision of the law-enforcement agencies. Perhaps, it was the only military operation against which no militant resistance was shown.  This became possible just because of MQM. Otherwise, the whole Pakistan has witness the militant resistance against the Liyari operation from the PAC. This is the biggest difference between a political party and a militant group.

There was another important aspect which came before the people due to that operation, i.e., the support of God towards MQM. When the terrorism was on its peak and all the MQM offices had been occupied by force and it had been made almost impossible even to speak about MQM, many of the religious parties started calling this adverse situation for MQM as the negative results of its ill-deeds. According to them, it was not the by force transfer of political mandate from one party to a state-formed militant pressure group, but the “Makafat-e-Aml” of the MQM`s ill-deeds. If it was really so, then, it should have been the logical end of MQM`s public support and the resulting political success. But, what did the time prove? Was it really the “Makafat-e-Aml” of the ill-deeds of MQM and its leadership??

In response to this claim, the time proved that the military operation of 1992 was a test to MQM from God by which it had to be put on a higher political stage and be bestowed with more popularity. If the today`s political support and size of MQM is compared with that of the one on 19th of June, 1992, it has tremendously expanded all over the country. On the other hand, when we see the people who claimed “Altaf`s chapter is closed”, we just find the dense darkness there.

It is also an interesting aspect of the 1992`s operation that it was very “philosophically” claimed by the ex-“workers” that it was them who made a worker (Altaf Hussain) a popular leader. Otherwise, he did not have a value in the people.

Generally, it is definitely the followers due to whom a leader is recognized. Otherwise, if there is no follower, no person can be considered as a leader. So, if it was also the same case here, then the “leader-maker” followers had withdrawn their support from Altaf Hussain to Afaq Ahmad. As a result, the newly made “leader” had to be on the same position as Quaid-e-Tehreek Altaf Hussaqin was. But, did it take place? Did it happen as per the claim to be true by the time? Not at all!

In contrast to it, Mr. Altaf Hussain has proved to be more popular leader of the people of all over the country. Up to June 19, 1992, Mr. Altaf Hussain MQM was the leader of only the people living in Urban Sindh. But, now under his leadership, MQM has its elected representatives from Sindh, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. In addition to this, it has also established its political presence in KPK, Baluchistan and Punjab. This is a very prominent mile stone that MQM has achieved despite the operation against it.

All this shows that it is not only the followers who make a person a leader, but it is also a fact that some people are born as leaders whom the people are bound to follow any way. Mr. Altaf Hussain has surely turned out to be one of the same born leaders. He was not made by anyone, but he himself made many middle and lower middle class no-value people the leaders. Dr. Farooq Sattar, Dr.Imran Farooq, Dr. Ishrat-ul-lbad, Mustafa Kamal, Nasreen Jaleel, Kanwer Naveed Jameel, Raza Haroon, Faisal Sabzwari are a few of these Altaf Hussain- made leaders.

In the scenario, where the followers feel compelled to commit suicide just because of not having the attention from their leaders, the way Mr. Ataf Hussain has remained in continuous touch with his followers from the place thousands of miles away from them even in the bad time, made his leadership quality altogether distinct from others.

To tell the truth, the way MQM faced the toughest operations all alone, it has made MQM more organized and turned it into a team of dedicated and honest members who can make the wonders take place only if the opportunities are given to them. MQM leadership and its members have proved their patriotism, honesty and the dedication for the country after giving unmatched sacrifices. Now, it is the turn of the Pakistani nation. They have to make the decision regarding giving a chance to MQM to put the country on the right track. They have to revisit their perceptions about MQM; they would neutrally have to analyze all these facts and take the honest step now. Otherwise, it might be too late to do so. Let`s see when and what decision the nation takes in the days to come regarding its future.

  1. well after this one of its kind operation against mqm which was aimed to eradicate its existance, mqm actually got stronger as it found a new strength in the form of its women and students wings who took control of its operations ... and in the next elections mqm again came back as a strong force to reckon with ...
